PRIVACY POLICY

Date of Last Revision: November 1, 2011

Welcome to www.japanesefoodculture.org (this “Site”) operated by Japanese Food Culture Association, a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation (“we,” “our” or “us”). This privacy policy (this “Policy”) explains how personal information is collected, used and disclosed by us with respect to your use of the this Site to enable you to make an informed decision about using this Site.
1. Personal Information:
As used in this Policy, the term “personal information” means information that specifically identifies an individual (such as a name, address, telephone number, mobile number, e-mail address or credit card information) or information about that individual when directly linked to personally identifiable information. Personal information does not include “aggregate” information, which is data we collect about the use of this Site or about a group or category of products, services or users, from which individual identities or other personal information has been removed. This Policy in no way restricts or limits our collection, use and disclosure of aggregate information.

2. Collection of Personal Information:
2.1 Voluntary Collection.
We may collect certain information you voluntarily provide to us, such as when you create an account or profile, send us an e-mail, use your credit card on this Site, or post information or other content to this Site.
2.2 Automatic Collection.
When you use this Site, some information is also automatically collected by us, including but not limited to your Internet Protocol (IP) address, your operating system, the browser type, the address of a referring web site and your activity on this Site. We treat this information as personal information if we combine it with or link it to any of the identifying information mentioned above. Otherwise, it is used in the aggregate only.
2.3 Cookies.
We may automatically collect certain information through the use of “cookies” or web beacons. Cookies are small data files that are stored on a user’s hard drive at the request of a Web site to enable the site to recognize users who have previously visited them and retain certain information such as customer preferences and history. If we link cookies to any personally identifying information, we will treat this information as personal information. Web beacons are small, invisible graphic images that may be used on this Site or in e-mails relating to this Site to collect certain information and monitor user activity on this Site. If you wish to block, erase, or be warned of cookies, please refer to your browser manufacturer to learn about these functions. However, if a browser is set not to accept cookies or if a user rejects a cookie, some portions of this Site may not function properly.
2.4 Third Party Ads.
We may also use third parties to serve ads on this Site. These third parties may place cookies, web beacons or other devices on your computer to collect nonpersonal information, and information provided by these devices may be used, among other things, to analyze data, to determine the popularity of certain content, to deliver advertising targeted to your interests and to better understand the usage and visitation of this Site and the other sites tracked by these third parties. This policy does not apply to, and we are not responsible for, cookies or web beacons in third party ads, and we encourage you to check the privacy policies of advertisers and/or ad services to learn about their use of cookies and other technology.

In some cases, the Service Provider may be directly collecting the information from you on our behalf. We may also share personal information with other third parties when you give us your consent to do so. We are not responsible for the actions of Service Providers or other third parties, nor are we responsible for any additional information you provide directly to these Service Providers or other third parties, and we encourage you to become familiar with their practices before disclosing information directly to them. Nothing herein restricts our ability to share aggregate information or information that does not identify you, which we may share with third parties without your consent. For information about your choices regarding the sharing of your information, see the section below entitled “Your Choices.” We are not responsible for the actions of any third parties with whom you share personal information.

To protect the confidentiality of your personal information, to the extent you obtain a password for access to this Site, you must keep your password confidential and not disclose it to any other person. You are responsible for all uses of our web site by any person using your password. Please advise us immediately if you believe your password has been misused or misappropriated. When you transmit any personal information, including your credit card information, through any of the pages on this Site, your personal information may not be encrypted before being sent over the internet. There is no absolute guarantee of security or of privacy.

6. Your Choices.
You may “opt out” of receiving marketing or promotional e-mails from us by following the instructions in those e-mails you receive. This will not affect our ability to send you service and account related e-mails or to use your personal information as otherwise described in this Policy.

This Site contains links to other websites. Any personal information you provide on a linked site is provided directly to that third party and is subject to that third party’s privacy policy. However, please note that is some cases, we may believe it is necessary or appropriate to retain certain personal information we have collected, and the deletion of such personal information will be in our sole discretion unless otherwise required by law.

9. Children’s Privacy (Age 12 and Under).

We are committed to protecting the privacy needs of children and we encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 and we do not target this Site to children under 13. We do not seek to collect personal information about children through this Site. We do not condition a child’s participation in an activity on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity. If we become aware that a person submitting personal information to us through any part of this Site is a child, we delete such personal information as soon as we discover it and do not use it for any purpose, nor do we disclose it to third parties. Since we do not seek to collect any personal information about children, and we delete any information collected inadvertently as soon as we discover that a child has submitted it, we typically retain no information about children that could be reviewed or deleted. If a parent requests review or deletion of information about their child before we have discovered and deleted the information, then we will of course honor that request
